The Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce Every Day Matters encourages excellence in attendance. At the beginning of the school year, Santa Fe Public Students (SFPS) students received an Every Day Matters flyer announcing the initiative that was provided by Chamber members El Castillo Life Plan Community and A’Viands, (Food Service Management). Names of (SFPS of students in grades K-12 who did not miss more than two days during the 2019-20 school year were entered into a drawing for a prize. Thanks to the generous donations by Chamber members and local businesses, three students from each grade received a gift valued at a minimum of $110; student gifts were presented at the May 2020 SFPS Board of Education Meeting.
According to Simon Brackley, former President of the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber and local businesses recognize that chronic absences often lead to poor grades and lower skill levels, which can be detrimental to a student’s future. In thanking Kathy Jahner, Julia Furry, Michael Kaplan and all the volunteers and businesses who supported this successful program, Brackley indicated the Every Day Matters initiative inspires better student attendance and brings students one step closer to achieving success after high school in whatever college or career path they choose. Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce sponsorship of the Every Day Matters attendance program is underway for the 2019-20 school year in conjunction with the Santa Fe Public Schools and program and prize sponsors. Prizes must be donated by no later than April 15, 2022. Contact Kathy Jahner at 505-919-9698 or kathy@santafechamber.com for program and prize sponsorship information.
