From the President's Desk

Since 1983, Santa Fe has nurtured leaders through its impactful Leadership Santa Fe program, officially established by the Opportunities Fund under the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce's nonprofit wing in 2009. This initiative refutes the notion that leaders are solely born, asserting that leadership is cultivated through meaningful experiences and challenging opportunities that equip individuals to navigate the world successfully.

Leadership Santa Fe provides a platform for participants to enhance the city and acquire vital leadership skills. Running from September to April, the program consists of eight non-consecutive weeks of engagement. Drawing from over 30 annual cohorts, the program fosters growth by assembling diverse individuals of varied backgrounds, ages, and achievements. Bankers, nonprofit workers, young professionals, seasoned experts, newcomers, and government employees unite to learn, collaborate, and hone essential leadership abilities.

Through Friday and Saturday sessions, participants discuss key topics encompassing economic development, education, climate change, government, and more. With a commitment to inclusivity, the Leadership Review Committee seeks a balanced group aged 20 to 70 to facilitate mutual learning.

David Markwardt, Program Director and Leadership Skills trainer, highlights the program's transformational and enjoyable nature. Emphasizing collaborative learning and shared community resources, the program counters the misconception that leadership demands isolation. Alumni testimonials add authenticity, and David encourages prospective participants to connect with past graduates for insights.

The current year's cohort comprises 36 members representing 29 different organizations. Applications for the next year's class will be open from January 1 to May 31, with class selections announced in mid-June. Leadership Santa Fe is an invaluable community asset, inviting contemplation on potential beneficiaries for the coming year. More details are available on the website, www.leadershipsantafe.org, and inquiries can be directed to info@leadershipsantafe.org.
